About Us
God’s Garden is a community garden at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas. It is the coming to fruition of several ideas that have been floating around here for a while, raising questions in the minds of the people who are here, questions like “How can we as a church benefit the larger community? What can we do with the extra land we’ve got? What are some things that we can do for our children? Where can we get good, healthy, and not-so-expensive food?” The phrase “community garden” kept jumping into people’s heads, and finally enough of us bumped into each other that the phrase got spoken out loud and finally converted from an idea into a reality.
The garden exists to answer all of the above questions. It provides a way for us to help the local and larger community by providing food, and, through sales of the vegetables, money to benefit the poor and needy. It provides an opportunity for kids to see the wonder of Creation at work, up close and personal. It provides, for its participants, more opportunities to work with the Creator to bring about life that wasn’t there before, and to see that…
“ You care for the land and water it;
You enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so You have ordained it.
You drench its furrows
and level its ridges;
You soften it with showers
and bless its crops.
You crown the year with Your bounty,
and Your carts overflow with abundance.”
